Xoloitzcuintle

El término Xoloitzcuintle proviene del náhuatl: Xolotl que significa extraño e itzcuintli que significa perro. Es un canino ancestral endémico de México asociado al dios Xolotl que para los aztecas era un dios con cuerpo de hombre y cabeza de animal que protegía al inframundo, ellos pensaban que fue éste quién entregó al Xoloitzcuintle como regalo sagrado a los hombres, es por esto que se consideraba un guardián y aliado trascendental que acompañaba a los humanos después de la muerte en su camino al inframundo.

Actualmente es de Preocupación menor aunque durante la colonización española estuvo al borde de la extinción, además de su principal característica de la ausencia de pelo también tiene orejas muy grandes y erguidas de forma triangular, presenta pliegues o arrugas en el cuerpo y lo podemos encontrar en tres tamaños, estándar, mediano y miniatura.

It is considered Least Concern although during the Spanish colonization it was on the verge of extinction, in addition to its main characteristic of the absence of hair it also has very large and erect triangular shaped ears, it presents folds or wrinkles in the body and we can find it in three sizes, standard, medium and miniature.
