Tapir

Nombre científico: Tapirus bairdii
Otros nombres: tsimin k’áax- caballo de selva (maya), danta y anteburro.

Podemos encontrar al Tapir Centroamericano en el sur de México aunque también llegan al norte de Colombia y Ecuador, hoy está  en peligro de extinción debido a la perdida de hábitat y a la cacería.

Es la especie de mamífero terrestre más grande del trópico americano, puede rebasar los 250 kg de peso y mide 2 metros en promedio.

Se alimentan de tallos, follaje, frutos, semillas y corteza de árbol. Tienen una trompa larga y flexible que usan para alcanzar y manipular sus alimentos, también les sirve para detectar olores con gran precisión y para producir sonidos que les ayudan a comunicarse.

We can find the Central American Tapir in southern Mexico, although it is also north of Colombia and Ecuador, today it is in danger of extinction due to habitat loss and hunting.
It is the largest land mammal species in the American tropics, can exceed 250 kg in weight and measures 2 meters on average.
They feed on stems, foliage, fruits, seeds and tree bark. They have a long and flexible nose that they use to reach and manipulate their food, it also serves them to detect odors with great precision and to produce sounds that help them communicate.
