El manatí del Caribe es el único mamífero acuático herbívoro que existe, se extiende desde el Golfo de México, Mar del Caribe, este de Brasil hasta algunas islas de las Antillas.

Está catalogada como especie vulnerable, esto debido a la pérdida de su hábitat y por los golpes que reciben de los barcos navegantes; en Quintana Roo se estima que hay entre 200 y 250 ejemplares.

Pueden llegar a medir más de 3 metros y pesar cerca de 500 kilogramos, son de color gris y tienen colas aplanadas, aguantan 20 minutos bajo el agua y habitan en aguas dulces y saladas.

It is classified as a vulnerable species, due to the loss of its habitat and the hits it receives from sailing ships; in Quintana Roo it is estimated that there are between 200 and 250 specimen.

They can measure more than 3 meters and weigh about 500 kilograms, they are gray and have flattened tails, hold up to 20 minutes underwater and lives in fresh and salt waters.
